Dr. Antoni Esteve Foundation through the e-Oncologia platform

The course How to write a scientific article reaches a new edition of its online format. With the same philosophy as its face-to-face format, the online course aims to introduce students to the basic techniques and skills for writing and publishing scientific articles in health sciences. For this reason, the Esteve Foundation is once again collaborating with the e-Oncology platform, which has more than 1,500 hours of virtual training specialized in health.

Aimed at

The course is aimed at young researchers with little experience in writing and publishing scientific papers and is open to the entire Spanish-speaking international community.

Format

With a total duration of 12 hours, the online version of How to write a scientific article will have theoretical video sessions on three main modules: scientific writing, scientific publication and the ethical aspects of scientific publishing.

Methodology

The participatory spirit of the face-to-face course has also been transferred to its online edition, which has different types of exercises, some of them self-assessing, and discussion forums to promote communication between teachers and students.

Material

The course also provides participants with a virtual space that collects all the documentation, bibliography and multimedia resources related to scientific writing, as well as the Dr. Antoni Esteve Foundation’s Notebook Scientific Writing in Biomedicine: What You Need to Know, where several authors delve into all aspects related to scientific publishing.

Teaching team

Carmen Vives-Cases (Tutor in this edition)

Professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University of Alicante, she has been president of the Spanish Society of Epidemiology (2016-2018) and named Doctor Honoris Causa by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Umëa (Sweden). She has directed several competitive research projects mainly in the areas of epidemiology of gender-based violence against women, immigration, ethnic minorities and public health. From 2010 to 2016 she was associate editor of the journal Gaceta Sanitaria. She has taught courses on publication in biomedical journals organized by Gaceta Sanitaria and the Dr. Antoni Esteve Foundation from 2010 to the present.

Esteve Fernández Muñoz

Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Barcelona and Head of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program at the Catalan Institute of Oncology. He has directed several research projects funded by national and international agencies and is the author of more than 400 articles published in indexed journals. He has been director of the journal Gaceta Sanitaria (2004-2010) and collaborates with several journals as an external reviewer. He has taught numerous seminars and courses related to publication in biomedical journals.

Ana María García García

Professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University of Valencia. He has collaborated and directed numerous funded research projects, having also published numerous articles in national and international journals and books related to his specialty. She has been associate editor of the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health and Gaceta Sanitaria. Between 2015 and 2019 she held the position of Director General of Public Health in the Valencian Community. In 2020 she was part of the committee of experts that advised the Government during the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
